Bio
Bart Hobijn joined the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
(FRBC) in the spring of 2022. He is an applied macroeconomist whose research
focuses on labor markets, inflation, productivity, and economic measurement. His
work spans research, teaching, policy analysis, and public communication, with a
particular emphasis on understanding the implications of these topics for the broader
economy.
Prior to joining FRBC, Mr. Hobijn was a Full Professor of Economics at Arizona
State University and worked in the Economic Research departments of the Federal
Reserve Banks of San Francisco and New York. He has taught economics at Arizona
State University, U.C. Berkeley, the City University of New York, New York University,
and VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Mr. Hobijn completed his Ph.D. in Economics at New York University and his M.S.
in Econometrics at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Together
with Ay¸seg¨ul
S¸
ahin, he co-founded Labor Market Update, a research and data
visualization project dedicated to timely analysis of U.S. labor market developments.
He has built a diverse and widely cited body of work spanning academic research,
policy analysis, and economic measurement. His work has appeared in leading
journals, including the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics,
and Journal of Monetary Economics, as well as in numerous Federal Reserve research
publications. Reflecting its broad influence, his research has been cited more than
12,000 times according to Google Scholar.
